Alliance Primary School Band, Kowloon Tong (Hong Kong)

The Band of the Alliance Primary School, Kowloon Tong was established in 1997 with generous encouragement and support from the School Management Committee, Principal, teachers, parents and the community. Musical activities in the school includes the Choir, Instrumental classes, String Orchestra, the Band and the Symphony Orchestra.

Besides participating in community performances, other commendable performances include concerts at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (1988), the Opening Ceremony of Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTRC). In the 2003 Hong Kong Youth Music Competition, the band was awarded the Grand Champion Prize, a prize normally awarded to secondary schools. In the 56th Hong Kong Music Festival, the band and Symphony Orchestra both won the First Prize.

The school band and orchestra plans to have regular overseas exchanges, so that members will have more learning opportunities. The band has her conductor, Mr. Martin Choy to thank for his invaluable directing and hard work of her members to achieve what they have today. The band hopes to bring sweet memory of music to our students through musical training.

Belilios Public School Symphonic Band (Hong Kong)

Founded in 1984, the Symphonic Band is one of the very few girls bands in Hong Kong. In its eighteen-year history, the band has successfully nurtured generations of young musicians, thereby promoting a wider interest in band music in the school. The band currently has 60 members from Secondary 1 to 7.

The band and many of her talented members has amassed numerous awards at the annual Band Interflow and the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. In March 2004, the band won the championship and was awarded St. Bonaventure Trophy in the 56th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.

The band has participated in a cultural exchange programme to Guangdong (1994), a concert tour to Taiwan (1996) and in 1998, the band made a week long tour to Sydney, Australia participating in the 10th APBDA Conference and Showcase. They also shared the stage with a few top school bands in Beijing in August 1999. By special invitation they made a performance in the Macau Band Festival 2000.

CCC Kei Wan Primary School (Aldrich Bay) Alumni Band (Hong Kong)

Established in 2002, the Alumni Band consists of over seventy graduates from the Primary School Band. Under the supervision of Mr Fung Kai Man Kenneth and instructors, the band has performed at school concerts, public performances and has also made guest performances in the Hong Kong Youth Music Interflow and Hong Kong Youth Arts Festival. These activities enrich the members' knowledge of music and offer members the opportunity to co-operate with others.

Members of the Alumni Band have been invited to share their performances at venues such as the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Hong Kong City Hall and Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre. Recently, they have been invited to Guangzhou, Shanghai, Macau and Zhuhai for musical and cultural exchanges. In 2000, they were invited to Macau to perform in the opening ceremony of the Macau Band Festival 2000. In 2004, they were also invited by the APBDA to perform at the Jeju 2004 Summer Band Festival in Korea.

Chiang-Tsui Elementary School Concert Band (Taiwan)

The Chiang-Tsui Elementary School, one of the most famous elementary schools in northern Taiwan was founded in 1919 and is situated in Ban Chiao City, ten minutes away from the center of Taipei City.

Besides academic work, students are encouraged to actively participate in various extracurricular clubs, the Concert Band being one of them. The school's Concert Band, comprises students who excel in both academic performances and are interested in music. These students, with their diligence and cooperation, have made the band one of the most outstanding clubs in the school.

Under the direction of Band Directors, Chang Ching-wen and Lin Gon-li, the band has participated in many wind band contests since 1991 and has won the "Excellent Performance" award every year. In December 2004, the band even took first prize in the contest.

This is the band's sixth overseas musical exchange and they are looking forward to share their valuable experience with all of the participants at this grand musical gathering.

Da Ciao Elementary School Band 台南区大桥国小管乐队 (Taiwan)

Established in 1996, the band is now 155 members strong with the students divided into three groups. Rehearsals are held after school hours and offer a chance for students to study music and have the opportunity to participate and be involved in the management of the group. Under the support and encouragement from the school management and the conductor, the band actively promotes music education and participates in numerous performances and music exchanges. Parents of the band members also show enthusiasm in providing encouragement to their children and partaking in the activities to show parental support.

Over the years, the band has won numerous awards and much acclaim in the Taiwan District Music Competitions. The band performs at every school celebration and is actively participating in public performances and competitions in other districts.

Fu Hsing Junior High School Brass Band (Taiwan)

Fu Hsing Junior High School Brass Band, established in 1996 was originally set up as a marching band. It was transformed into a wind ensemble in 1997 and has been performing regularly for the past nine years. It is now under the direction of Instructors, Wang Sho Tian and Hung Yao De

Under the encouragement and support of the School's management and the principal, Mr. Mark Wu, the wind ensemble not only play at school ceremonies, art and cultural activities or graduation ceremonies, but also performs regularly for the local communities. The wind ensemble also holds a public concert every year.

Over the years, the wind ensemble has actively taken part in competitions and has attained commendable awards at the Tainan City music competition, including the first prize at a national music competition in 2004.

To these junior high school students who have knowingly and willingly taken on the extra effort for rehearsals besides their academic work, they deserve tremendous credit.

Hong Kong Young Musician's Wind Orchestra (Hong Kong)

The HKYMWO, with currently more than 50 members, is a non-profit organization registered under the Societies Ordinance. It is founded by Mr. Lam Wing Tsan, Mr. Amos Lee Ka Yiu and Mr. Joseph Yu Lung Sang and was set up in December 2000 with the prime objective of nurturing young talents through progressive training.

It's the Orchestra's intention to expose Hong Kong's brilliant young musicians to various artistic experiences, which include opportunities for exchange and tours with the other top wind band players and renowned professional musicians from around the world.

The Orchestra has toured and performed in concerts and performances including the 5th Summer Band Festival at Jeju (2001), the 12th APBDA Conference (2002) and the 4th Macau International Band Festival (2003).

The HKYMWO has also been invited to perform in the "Music Inclusivity" organized by the Leo Club of Central (2002), the "Ten Outstanding Young Persons Selection" (2002 ), the "Kwai Tsing Mini Concert" (2003) and at the 2003 New Year's Eve event broadcasted live on TV.

Hong Kong Youth NeoWinds Orchestra (Hong Kong)

A newly established wind orchestra led by renowned local conductor Danilo Delfin and teachers Martin Choy (Clarinet) and Choy Lap Tak (Percussion). The Orchestra is operated under Tom Lee Music Foundation, a non-profit organization with the aim of nurturing young talented musicians with high-quality orchestral training and providing a variety of music courses to people of all ages in Hong Kong.

The orchestra provides opportunities for local and overseas performances as well as inviting renowned artists, performers and maestros to conduct master classes, seminars and workshops for members to widen their musical horizon.

After its formation in April this year, the orchestra made a successful debut at the 2004 Hong Kong Band Fair. The orchestra was also invited to perform at the Wind Instruments Karaoke Contest in November 2004 with Mr Hiro Noguchi (trumpet) from Japan as guest soloist. The orchestra is now preparing for its annual concert with Mr Masami Takakura (Yamaha, Japan) as guest conductor.

# Po Leung Kuk No 1 W.H. Cheung College Symphonic Band (Hong Kong)

Po Leung Kuk No.1 W.H.Cheung College is an aided secondary school established in 1971. The school's Wind Band, established in 1978 now has over 60 members from ages 12 to 18 years. Under the direction of the Band Master, Mr. Lam Wing Tsan, many students with music talents have since gone onto musical success.

The band has participated in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and the Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows - Secondary School Band Contest for many years and has constantly achieved great success with their appearances. The members have won many prizes in individual and ensemble competitions.

The Wind Band has often been invited to perform for external functions and has won wide acclaim. In 2000, the band was invited to perform in Hamamatsu - Japan and in 2002, the 3rd Macau Band Festival.

The versatile orchestra has reached a wide range of audiences with their performances. They have also performed at opening ceremonies and received great accolades for their appearances.

Taipei ZhongZheng & Ying-Ge Junior High School Band (Taiwan)

The combined bands from Taipei Zhong-Zheng and Ying-Ge Junior High Schools comprises music loving students who are very much looking forward to this musical exchange for the Outreach Programme as it offers yet another opportunity for the students to cooperate with other players in a same band.

In the last few years, the bands have participated in various kinds of competitions and presented a number of performances; all of which have won several awards and gained tremendous praises from the audience.

Band Conductor of these 2 bands, Mr. Tzou, Gi-Hwa, who teaches the trumpet in the Taiwan National Hsin-Chu Teachers College is also a Director of Taipei County Teacher Symphonic Band and a director of Taiwan Band Association who is devoted to the development of bands in Taiwan. The bands under his direction have earned many awards in Taiwan Band Competition and TBA Band Contest in recent years.

Tel Aviv YAFO Youth Symphonic Band (Israel)

The Tel Aviv Youth Symphonic Band, established in the late 1950's consists of young talented musicians from the Tel Aviv area ages 15 to 18. The Band holds concert tours overseas biannually and has performed in National events as well as a special concert held for the former USA President, Bill Clinton in Tel Aviv 1996.

The Orchestra has been invited regularly by Jewish Federations to perform concerts in the USA and Europe and has been chosen by Israel to perform in countries as far as China on the occasion of Israel's 50th anniversary.

The Band is conducted by Albert Piamenta, a composer and performer who has composed and arranged music for leading Israeli artists and composed music for the theatre and cinema and collaborated with leading Jazz musicians in New York during the 1970's.

The Tel Aviv Youth Symphonic Band won the first prize several times at the National Israeli Competition for Youth Symphonic Bands established at the late 1980's.

TWGHS Wong Fut Nam College Symphonic Band (Hong Kong)

TWGH Wong Fut Nam College Symphonic Band, currently under the direction of Mr. Steve Kwan Tsz Lai, was established in 1978 with the aim to promote music activities, arouse students' interest in music as well as cultivate students' learning ability and their artistic accomplishment. In the past Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows and Hong Kong School Music Festivals, the Band has won many prizes. In recent years, the Band was invited to perform in graduation ceremonies in universities, colleges and institutes.

In order to widen the students' horizon, the Band travels overseas annually for musical and cultural exchanges. The Band was invited to perform in the APBDA Festival in 1994, held in Hamamatsu, Japan. The band has also toured and performed in Macau, Beijing, Singapore and Taiwan, Shanghai with the support from the Dr. Chen Shouren recreational, cultural and education fund of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals.
