WASBE at the Midwest Clinic
The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic (Chicago) will be held from December 18-22, 2007. This year WASBE will add a meeting for all members. We will use this “forum” to pass along information concerning ongoing work with the WASBE Board, to bring members up to date information on the 2009 Conference in Cincinnati, and to offer members a chance to ask questions and voice opinions. This meeting will take place just prior to our annual reception.
- WASBE Members Meeting: Wednesday, 19 December at 15:30
- WASBE Reception: Wednesday, 19 December at 17:30.
Check the Midwest Program Book for the correct rooms.
We want to thank World Projects and the Cincinnati Local Organizing Committee for their sponsorship of the reception.
Stop by the WASBE Booth #908 (Southwest Hall) to visit and to meet members you might not have met before. By the way, this is a great time to pay your membership dues for 2008.
WASBE 2007 Podcast: Episode 8 Added
We could not conclude the WASBE 2007 Conference Podcast without speaking once again with 2007 LOC Chair Fergus O'Carroll. He reflects on the Conference (all that he saw of it) and provides some behind-the-scenes insight. We discuss the things that the Irish contributed that are likely to continue in future Conferences. We also speak about the differences between a "legacy" and a "city event" Conference bid.
Message From the Treasurer
Due to a Publisher's error, a report from the WASBE Treasurer was not included in the September Newsletter. We are making this message available via our web site. The report will also be published in the December Newsletter.

Conductor Scholarship Available For November Workshop
The WASBE Conductor Scholarship Program assists conductors wishing to attend a conducting workshop in a country other than their own. Once again this year, we have a participating workshop in November at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia, USA. For more information on how to apply for the tuition scholarship and for more information about the workshop, visit our Conductor Scholarship Program page. The deadline for submission of scholarship applications is September 28.
Contests for Composers
We have compiled a list of current composition competitions for the benefit of our web site visitors. (This list was also published in the June Newsletter).
Improved Events Listing on WASBE.org
WASBE maintains one of the best lists of international wind events and makes this available freely on this web site to all visitors. We have now enchanced this service so that the short list of events on the right side of this page is updated automatically. Links to the event web site are included. The full International Events list, which includes brief text synopses, is still available and is now being updated automatically as well.

WASBE Elections 2007–2013
The deadline to vote for WASBE Board of Directors, including President-Elect, is May 15. Information about each of the candidates was published in the March Newsletter (WASBE members only) as well as a printed ballot for mailing or faxing. Optionally, you may vote via e-mail by sending your one choice for President-Elect and four choices for the WASBE Board to Past President Dennis Johnson. You must include your name and membership number on your ballot, regardless of the method you use to send it (this helps prevent voting fraud). Be assured that all votes will remain confidential.
Note: If you e-mailed a ballot to Dennis Johnson between (approx.) April 25 and May 1, you may have received a reply stating that his e-mailbox was full and messages were not being accepted (e.g., your message would "exceed quota"). The problem has now been resolved, but your ballot may not have been received by Dennis. Please resend all such ballots to Dennis as soon as possible (please let Dennis know that you sent it twice in case the first one did eventually get through).

The selection committee has processed all applications for the 2007 International Youth Wind Orchestra. Offers of places were e-mailed to applicants on 01 February. If you applied for the IYWO and have not received any notification, please e-mail the committee with your full name and instrument and they can arrange to re-send your notification.
