Georgia State University/University of Georgia Conducting Symposium will be held at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA on the 2nd and 3rd of April, 2010. This symposium offers opportunities for experienced conductors as well as those who are new to the field and looking to refine their conducting skills. For more information:

University of Texas at Austin 2010 Art of Band Conducting and Rehearsing Workshop will be held at the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music, University of Texas at Austin in Austin, TX from the 13th to the 17th of June, 2010. The workshop will will feature UT faculty members Jerry Junkin, Robert Carnochan, Richard Floyd, Scott Hanna, and Robert Duke, along with special guest John Mackey. The repertoire includes music by Dvořák, Hindemith, Holst, Mackey, Mozart, Susato, and Whitacre. The fee is $600 for participants and $350 for observers. Registration will open on February 1st, and enrollment will be limited to the first 24 paid participants. There is no limit for observers For more information:

CBDNA Conducting Symposium for Band Conductors will be held at the University of Colorado at Boulder in Boulder, Colorado from the 14th to the 18th of June, 2010. Craig Kirchhoff will join host Allan McMurray in six hours per day of intensive exploration of expressive conducting technique, repertoire, rehearsal techniques, analysis, and interpretation of scores. Jim Cochran from Shattinger Music will share his amazing knowledge of music, publishers, contacts and will have a large selection of scores, books, cds, dvds and everything else imaginable available. Also, the special guest composer this year will be Frank Ticheli – so several pieces in the repertoire list this year will be his. For more information:

Juilliard Conducting Workshop for Music Educators will be held at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, NY from the 12th to the 15th of July, 2010. Conducting Faculty: Virginia Allen (Juilliard), George Stelluto (Juilliard), and James Smith (University of Wisconsin-Madison, Wisconsin Youth Orchestras). Seminar Teachers: Otto-Werner Mueller (Conductor Emeritus, Juilliard; The Curtis Institute of Music) and Juilliard faculty members Joseph Alessi, Eric Ewazen, Gary Thor Wedow, Shafer Mahoney, and Wayne Oquin. This Workshop is designed for instrumental music educators actively teaching at the middle school, high school, and college levels. The Workshop features band and orchestra conducting in the same workshop, daily conducting opportunities with advanced ensembles, sessions on specific issues in conducting and music education, and an opportunity for each Conducting Fellow to work with Conducting Faculty. All conducting sessions are video recorded. Seminar topics include score analysis, improving aural skills, arranging for your ensemble, working with composers, and audition preparation for school musicians. The repertoire is Beethoven: Symphony No. 1; Dvorak: Serenade in D minor; and Mozart: Eine kleine Nachtmusik.Ten CONDUCTING FELLOWS will be selected to conduct during daily podium sessions for a Workshop total of approximately 60 minutes; receive video feedback; and participate in seminars. Conducting Fellow applicants must submit a DVD of 15 minutes of a rehearsal and 15 minutes of a performance with the application. The Conducting Fellow fee is $2,000 for 2 credits. Thirty PARTICIPANTS will be selected to observe conducting sessions and participate in seminars. The Participant fee is $1,200 for 1 credit. Limited housing is available. Harmoniemusik Academy will be held in St. Moritz, Switzerland from the 2nd to the 7th of August, 2010. Deals with many aspects of Harmoniemusik, the classical music for eight or more wind instruments that came into existence since the middle of the 18th Century. The art of interpretation, ensemble technique, and conducting will be a central topic in this course. Rehearsals, clinics, lectures about performance practice, repertoire and historical topics, and other aspect of Harmoniemusik will be offered.
