Bristolive! – The International Festival for Amateur Musicians will be held in Bristol, England from the 9th to the 13th of June, 2005. The festival is open to bands, orchestras and choirs and includes concerts, workshops and masterclasses in leading venues throughout the historic city of Bristol. The Annual Certamen Internacional de Bandes de Musica Valencia will be held at the Palau de la Música in Valencia, Spain from the 1st to the 10th of July, 2005. The contest is open to amateur winds bands, which may compete in one of four categories of difficulty. For more information:

The 3rd Jungfrau Music Festival will be held in the Swiss cities of Interlaken, Bern and Thun from the 3rd to the 9th of July, 2005. The festival, which is open to both amateur and professional bands, will consist of concerts, competitions and workshops. Among the bands particating this year are the La Banda Musicale dell'Aeronautica Militare (Italy), the Polizeimusikkorps Baden Württemberg (Germany), and the Danish Concert Band. The 8th Saxoniade International Festival for Youth Wind Bands will take place in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Germany from the 7th to the 10th of July, 2005. The 15th World Music Contest will be held in Kerkrade, The Netherlands from the 7th to the 31st of July, 2005. The world's largest wind band contest consists of competitions for concert bands, marching bands, show bands, and conductors. For more information:

The 4th International Youth Music Festival Zurich will be held from the 8th to the 12th of July, 2005 in Zurick, Switzerland. The festival, which is open to youth wind bands, fanfare bands, brass bands, and percussion ensembles, includes concerts, competitions for concert and marching bands, and parades. Hong Kong International Band Festival 2005 will be held in Hong Kong from the 18th to the 24th of July, 2005. The Festival, which is organized by the Hong Kong Band Director's Association, includes clinics, workshops, concerts, a marching band showcase, and a parade along Victoria Harbour. Clinicians include Boston Brass, clarinetist John Albert Koljonen and saxophonist Jean Ives Formeau. The festival is open to all bands from around the world. For more information:

The Annual Canford Summer School Wind Band Conducting Course will be held at the Sherborne School in Dorset, England from the 7th to the 14th of August, 2005. Among the conducting faculty this year will be Timothy Reynish. A maximum of twenty active participants may take part in the Conducting Course. The 8th International Youth Band Festival will be held from the 24th to the 28th of August, 2005 in Echedoros, Greece. The festival is open to youth concert bands, marching bands, big bands, and percussion ensembles with a minimum of fifteen players and a maximum of forty-five. All groups play daily concerts and participate in a parade on the final day. Free meals and housing are provided to all participants. For more information:

The 7th Annual World Band Festival (WBF) will be held at the Lucerne Culture and Convention Center in Lucerne, Switzerland from the 24th of September to the 2nd of October, 2005. The Festival includes eleven gala concerts and the Yamaha Swiss Open Contest for Brass Bands. Among the bands performing this year are the Rundfunk Blasorchester Leipzig and the Band of the Grenadier Guards from London. For more information:

The 12th International Competition for Symphonic Wind Bands Ostrava 2005 will be held at the Community Centre in the City of Ostrava in the Czech Republic from the 21st to the 23rd of October, 2005. Bands with a minimum of 45 and a maximum of 85 musicians may compete in one of two catagories. Gold, silver and bronze prizes will be awared to the winning bands, and there are prizes for the best conductor and soloist. The required test piece for the first category is Vladimir Studnicka's Radostné mládi; the required piece for the second category is Evžen Zámečnik's Festivo ben rytimico. For more information:

The 34th Certamen Internacional de Bandes de Música Vila d’Altea will take place on the 3rd and 4th of December, 2005 at the Palau Altea Centre d’Arts in Altea, Spain. The contest is open to non-professional symphonic bands, which may compete in one of two categories: bands of 85 players or less, and bands of between 85 and 130 musicians. The test piece for bands of 85 player of less is Ximo Cano’s Manual del perfecte inoportú. The test piece for bands of more than 85 players is the Symphony No. 2 “Theogonic” by Andrés Valero Castells. Cash prizes will be awarded. The registration deadline is Friday, June 17, 2005. The 17th Biennial Conference of the International Gesellschaft zur Erforschung und Förderung der Blasmusik (IGEB) will be held at the Vintage Band Music Festival in Northfield, Minnesota, USA from the 27th of July to the 1st of August, 2006. The international joint conference for musicologists, teachers, students, early music specialists and performers combines the research interest of two organizations. The conference will include the presentation of research papers, lectures, demonstrations, and historical performances by American Civil War saxhorn bands, 18th Century Harmoniemusik, and ethnic brass bands.
