Call for Proposals — 15th WASBE Conference
The Artistic Planning Committee for the 2011 WASBE Conference invites submissions of proposals for presentations at the 15th Biennial Conference, which will be held in Chiayi City, Taiwan from the 3rd to the 9th of July 2011. The 30th Anniversary Conference motto is: Preparing for the Future by Building on the Past.
Presentations may take the form of lectures, panel discussion, workshops or clinics and should be no more than 50 minutes in length. Any topics related to symphonic wind bands/ensembles and their repertoire are welcome, including rehearsal techniques, artistry in performance, appropriate repertoire at all grade levels, regionally significant repertoire, programming, marketing and concert promotion, use of technology, composition and arranging techniques, and research related to pedagogy and performance. The Conference will be dealing with the following five broad themes, and thus presentations related to these topics are especially being sought.
- Creating a New Synergy between Composers, Conductors and Publishers
- The Wind Band – The Traditional Link Between Classical and Popular Music
- The Wind Orchestra and Its Flexible Instrumentation – The Next Step
- Encouraging the Composition of Symphonic Wind Band/Ensemble Literature of Excellence that Reflects National Heritages and Transcends International Boundaries
- Problem(s) with Permanently Out of Print Music – Solutions to a Vexing Problem
- Meeting the Regional Needs of Wind Bands and Composers in Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Africa
Proposal Guidelines
Proposals should be written in English and include the following:
- Name of the presenter(s)
- Postal address of presenter(s)
- Email address of presenter(s)
- Biographical Sketch of Presenter(s) (250 - 300 words)
- Title of presentation
- Abstract of Presentation (400 - 500 words) including
- aim and purpose of the presentation,
- theoretical background,
- synthesis of content,
- conclusions and/or implications.
- Audio/Visual requirements for the presentation
Members of the Artistic Planning Committee will review and select appropriate proposals. Acceptance for presentation will be subject to the final decision of the WASBE Board. Please note that it is not a requirement to be a member of WASBE in order to submit a proposal. However, it is expected that at the time of the Conference all presenters will be a member or student member of WASBE and register for the conference.
Proposals may be submitted electronically as PDF or MSWord documents. Proposals should be submitted by 30 June 2010 to:
