WSN Commissions
First Commission — Aue!
The first WASBE/WSN commission was spearheaded by Timothy Reynish of the Royal Northern College of Music in England. He gathered the support of more than 60 people in 10 countries to commission Christopher Marshall of New Zealand to write a seven minute piece for high school-level band. The result was Aue! for wind orchestra.
Aue! was premiered by Chetham's Wind Orchestra, conductor John Dickinson, at the 2001 British Association of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles conference in Manchester, UK. The work has gone on to be performed around the world by high school-level bands, college groups and professional ensembles and is now available through Maecenas Music, 5 Bushey Close, Old Barn Lane, Kenley, Surrey CR8 5AU, UK.
Mark Heron has written a guide to rehearsal and performance of Aue! which is posted in the Resources: Repertoire Resources area of the WASBE Web Site.
